A full day of learning about trans lives, featuring people who are trans and shared experiences of trans individuals.
Objectives
To give attendees insight into the delights and difficulties trans people experience in trying to live their authentic lives.
To promote understanding of trans identities and how to support trans people.
To explore the common misconceptions around trans people.
To have an open and frank discussion where terms such as transphobia and trans activism are explored .
Facilitator
The main speaker, Robert McCracken was a founder volunteer on MindLine Trans+. In subsequent years, Robert was a coordinator for Bristol Mind, providing training an supervision for Bristol Mind Volunteers. Robert was instrumental in developing Bristol Minds’ Trans awareness training.
Identifying as trans, Robert has lifelong experience of the rejection and misunderstanding that trans people have experienced. Robert’s experiences include rejection by family, dismissal from HM Forces, physical violence, sexual assault and many, many years in the closet.
