This workshop introduces Internal Family Systems (IFS) – a radical new style of individual psychotherapy which is rapidly growing in popularity around the world. Internationally renowned trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk (author of ‘The Body Keeps the Score’) has described it as ‘the treatment method which all clinicians should know.’ The key word is ‘internal’ – facilitating live dialogues between the client and his/her sub-personalities – i.e. the members of his/her internal psychological family. Gently and respectfully, an IFS session facilitates the client to uncover the traumatized ‘exiles’ (i.e. the wounded ‘inner child’ parts) which lie underneath their problems & stuckness at the deepest level. The ultimate aim is to release the ‘exiles’ from the crippling burdens which they carry, with a view to bringing healing and peace throughout the internal system. The workshop will be illustrated by video extracts showing live case material.
