SUMMARY:Understanding and Working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviour
DESCRIPTION:A CaPPP CPD workshop for Therapists with Magda Piesiewicz\n\n\nCaPPP is proud to introduce a special one-off workshop on Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorders. \nWe’ve heard your concerns and questions about how to understand and approach these behaviours\, and we’re here to support you. \nThis workshop is designed to provide clarity\, guidance\, and practical insights\, empowering you with the knowledge you need to navigate this topic confidently. \nJoin us to gain a deeper understanding and find helpful strategies in your private practice. \nThe workshop: \nThis workshop offers an in-depth and clinically informed exploration of Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD)\, drawing on current research\, therapeutic frameworks\, and case-based learning. The workshop aims to equip mental health practitioners with a more nuanced understanding of CSBD\, the factors that influence its development\, and how to engage ethically and effectively with clients presenting with sexually compulsive behaviours. \nParticipants will explore diagnostic frameworks\, including the ICD-11 classification of CSBD\, and will critically examine the debate between CSBD and the concept of sex addiction. The workshop will also introduce the principles of sexual health and help distinguish between problematic and functional aspects of sexual behaviours. We will discuss paraphilic interests versus perceived dysfunction. \nThrough a blend of theoretical content\, clinical case studies\, group discussion\, and reflective practice\, participants will gain tools for assessment\, formulation\, and intervention. The day supports trauma-informed\, sexology-informed\, and culturally sensitive practice\, and is suitable for clinicians working with sexual issues in private practice\, health settings\, and specialist services. \nLearning outcomes: \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will be able to: \n• Define and describe the key features and diagnostic criteria of Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD). \n• Differentiate CSBD from normative high sexual desire\, paraphilic interests\, and relational issues. \n• Identify contributing and maintaining factors\, including psychological\, relational\, neurobiological\, and sociocultural influences. \n• Apply a range of sexology-informed and integrative therapeutic interventions in working with CSBD. \n• Understand sexual health principles and how they apply to assessment and formulation. \n• Reflect on personal attitudes\, values\, and countertransference in the therapeutic relationship. \nEvent Programme: \n10:00 – 10:15 – Introductions and Reflective Icebreaker \nParticipants are welcomed and introduced to the aims\, structure\, and tone of the day. \n10:15 – 11:15 – Understanding CSBD: ICD-11\, Diagnostic Boundaries\, and Clinical Presentation \nThis session begins with an overview of CSBD as defined in ICD-11\, including clinical features and diagnostic considerations. We will explore the ongoing debate between CSBD and the concept of “sex addiction\,” considering implications for clinical work\, language\, and stigma. We will learn the concept of sexual health. \n11:15 – 11:30 – Morning Break \n11:30 – 13:00– Aetiology\, Formulation\, and Working with Complex Presentations \nThis session includes a presentation on clinical formulation using a biopsychosocial and psychosexual lens\, offering frameworks for understanding the complexity of CSBD. This will be followed by Case Study 1 and a group discussion\, where participants will apply these models and reflect on both the problematic and functional aspects of the behaviour within its wider context. \n13:00 – 14:00 – Lunch \n14:00 – 15:30 – Psychosexual and Integrative Interventions: Psychoeducation\, Emotional Regulation and Arousal Template Analysis \nThis session introduces essential psychosexual interventions\, including psychoeducation to help clients distinguish between fantasy and behaviour\, and emotional regulation strategies to address the underlying drivers of compulsivity. Therapists will also explore how to support clients in understanding their arousal templates in a non-pathologising\, and safe manner. \n16:00 – 16:15 – Afternoon Break \n16:15 – 16:45 – Case Study 2 \nA practical clinical vignette to apply theory to practice. Participants will engage in discussion around clinical decision-making\, therapist responses\, and ethical considerations. \n16:45 – 17:00– Final Reflections\, Questions\, and Close \nGroup reflection\, Q&A\, and summary of key insights from the day. \nFacilitator Profile: \nMagda is a UK-based Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist with extensive clinical experience supporting individuals and couples with a wide range of sexual and relational difficulties. She holds an MSc in Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Sexology and is currently completing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at Middlesex University. \nHer doctoral research explores psychotherapists’ experiences of working with clients struggling with Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD)\, with a focus on how clinicians navigate the clinical\, ethical\, and emotional complexities involved in this work. This research aligns closely with her ongoing interest in developing practitioner understanding and confidence when working with psychosexual issues in clinical settings. \nAlongside her therapeutic practice\, Magda has delivered a number of CPD workshops and professional trainings on compulsive sexual behaviour and broader psychosexual themes. She brings a particular passion for psychoeducation and is committed to creating reflective\, clinically grounded learning spaces. Her integrative approach is informed by psychosexual therapy\, person-centred values\, and trauma-informed principles. \nPrice: CaPPP Members Early Bird £65.00\, CaPPP Members £70\, Non-members £75.00 \nBooking: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/ \nPlaces are limited and must be booked in advance by 12.00 on Wednesday 12th November 2025 \nRegistration & refreshments: 9.30 to 10.00 refreshments are available throughout the day \nLunch: Lunch and refreshments are included in your booking \nVenue: Engineer’s House\, The Promenade\, Clifton Down\, Clifton\, Bristol\, BS8 3NB
