SUMMARY:Eat your Heart Out – In conversation with Susie Orbach
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP CPD Event\n\n\nA rare opportunity to spend the day with one of the leading figures in the world of psychotherapy\, Susie Orbach. Susie is one of the most well-known psychoanalysts of our time. Her eloquent and yet continually pressing thoughts and insights on women\, feminism\, bodies\, food\, relationships and the climate crisis have entered into our shared social consciousness. The author of twelve books\, numerous newspaper columns and articles\, she has brought alive the crises faced by many people\, particularly women\, and through her BBC Radio 4 series\, ‘In Therapy\,’ she shed light onto the mysterious encounter that is psychotherapy. \nAbout the workshop \nThe day will be very hands on and include an interview with Susie by Katina Noble a long-time friend of Susie and CaPPP committee member. Katina co-founded the Feminist theatre company\, Spare Tyre\, inspired by Susie’s ground-breaking book ‘Fat is a Feminist Issue’. The interview will be followed by a Q & A around eating problems\, clinical work and supervision etc. In the afternoon Susie will introduce her latest work on the ‘Bodi’ – ‘Body Observational Diagnostic Interview’\, again with lots of opportunity for participant involvement. The event will be followed by an opportunity to socialise\, with wine\, soft drinks and refreshments. \nAbout Dr Susie Orbach \nBeginning in 1976 with co-founding The Women’s Therapy Centre\, something which Andrew Samuels called a “shock to the professional world”\, Dr Orbach has continued to be involved in establishing organisations committed to social change and awareness\, including The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute\, Anybody\, Antidote and Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility.
