SUMMARY:White Privilege in Counselling and Psychotherapy with Judy Ryde
DESCRIPTION:Free online workshop for CaPPP members\n\n\n\nThis is a CaPPP members only event \nEvent Description: \nIt is hard for white people to understand the privilege they have. Often\, they do not feel very privileged themselves. Even well-meaning white people struggle to understand the depth of feeling that people from BAME communities feel about this privilege which can be obvious but is also hidden and subtle so hard to see. This workshop is designed to help white counsellors and psychotherapists gain a greater depth of understanding of the what it means to be a white psychotherapist within a diverse society and how their privilege affects their relationship with their client. \nFacilitator Profile: Judy Ryde PhD \nJudy has been a psychotherapist for more than 40 years and was one of the Founders of the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC). For much of her professional life she has been concerned about the lack of diversity in psychotherapy and this led to her doctoral research into whiteness within a racialized society. Her books\, ‘Being White in the Helping Professions’ was published in 2009 and ‘White Privilege Unmasked: How to be part of the solution’\, in 2019. She is founder and director of the charity Trauma Foundation South West\, which provides counselling and psychotherapy for refugees and asylum seekers\, as well as training and supervision for those working with traumatized refugees and asylum seekers in other agencies. \nBooking: \nPlaces must be booked in advance by 11.30pm on Wednesday 8th July. A link to the seminar will be emailed to you at the latest 24 hours before the start of the event. When booking please use the name you are known by on CaPPP and use the same name when joining the event. \nJoining the meeting: \nRegistration is from 14.30 via a waiting room please give enough time to join the meeting well before its start time as the presentation will start promptly at 15.00. \nThe presentation part of this event may be recorded but not group interactions in breakout rooms. The recording will be available to CaPPP members only.
