SUMMARY:Attachments & Neuroscience Masterclass with Dr Glyn Hudson-Allez
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP online CPD event Saturday 15th May 2021 \nDescription: \nInsecure attachments form neural behavioural pathways that manifest throughout childhood and are replicated in adult loving relationships. In addition\, infant trauma and the vandalization of the sexual template during critical periods in the development of the brain may lead to the later development of paraphilias and inappropriate sexual behaviour. Similar maladaptive strategies can lead to codependent relationships\, domestic violence and sometimes into psychopathology. In a synthesis of neuroscience\, developmental\, and social psychology this masterclass offers a fresh perspective as to the reasons that may precipitate some individuals into adult attachment pathology.\nThe morning will cover the development of an infant’s brain\, pre-programmed emotional circuits\, attachment circuitry\, and the development of the sexual template and the consequence of trauma\, vandalization of the sexual template\nIn the afternoon we will cover adult presentations of attachment styles\, co-dependent relationships\, and will link attachment theory into domestic violence. \nThis workshop is based on the book Infant Losses; Adult Searches (2011) by Glyn Hudson-Allez\nThe workshop will be live via zoom and will provide an interaction between dyadic learning\, group conversations and Q&A sessions. \nThe aims of the Masterclass are:\n• To introduce our understanding of the development of an infant’s brain\, neural pathways and the concept of left-brain right-brain dynamic.\n• To link Bowlby’s concept of attachments into the neural pathways and to discuss how things can go wrong at critical periods of brain development\n• To elaborate on the common behavioural manifestations of adults with insecure attachments in loving relationships and how they can malfunction.\n• To link this understanding into the therapist’s own way of working \nFacilitator: Glyn Hudson-Allez has a BSc (Hons) and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Bristol\, and an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology from the University of Leicester. She is a Psychosexual Therapist on the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) Supervisory Register\, and works with individuals\, couples and supervisees. She undertook her Cognitive Behavioural Training in California\, but works with an integrative style using attachments and neuropsychology as an underpinning. She has a diploma in Adult Education\, and has lectured in the UK\, Germany and Hong Kong. Glyn has two Fellowships: from The Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Primary Care (CPC)\, and The College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT). She is also a Trustee of The Specialist Treatment Organisation for the Prevention of Sexual Offending (StopSo)\nIn her clinical work\, Glyn specialises in working with people with sexual diversity issues\, internet addiction\, and those who have been charged with a sexual offense and became an expert witness in court procedures. \nPrice: CaPPP Members £25.00\, Non-members £35.00 \nPlaces are limited and must be booked in advance by 18.00 on Wednesday 12th May. A link to the event will be emailed to you at the latest 24 hours before the start of the event. \nRegistration on the day will be from 9.30 \nCPD certificates will be sent to participants who complete an evaluation form.

SUMMARY:Goals in Therapy: Actualising our Deepest Directions with Mick Cooper
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP CPD training day with Mick Cooper\n\n\n\nThis interactive workshop provides participants with an opportunity to develop their understanding of goals in counselling and psychotherapy\, and to develop their skills and knowledge in this area. The workshop is particularly oriented towards participants from a humanistic or integrative background: who are interested in an understanding their clients as agentic and purpose-oriented beings\, but wary of more mechanistic or ‘outcome-oriented’ goal-based approaches. The workshop starts by introducing the concept of ‘directionality’—that human beings are always oriented towards future possibilities—and looks at how this can be applied to an understanding of self. The workshop then explores what has been learnt from the psychological research about the nature of goals and goal processes (for instance\, distinguishing between ‘approach’ and ‘avoidance’ goals). It then goes on to a more practical exploration of working with goals\, including skills practice and video demonstrations. \nLEARNING OUTCOMES \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nDefine the concept of ‘directionality’ and be able to apply this to an understanding of their own psychological processes\nDiscuss the theory and evidence that relates ‘goal actualisation’ and goals types to psychological wellbeing and distress\nApply basic goal-oriented practices in counselling and psychotherapy\, including goal discussion and goal setting\nUse the Goals Form in an appropriate manner\n\nSCHEDULE \n\nSession 1: Directionality: The actualisation of our deepest directions\nSession 2: Goal dimensions: ‘Not all goals are created equal’\nSession 3: Basic principles and methods for working with goals in counselling and psychotherapy\nSession 4: Using the Goals Form\n\nFORMAT \nThe workshop combines self-development exercises\, theoretical input\, practical exercises\, and small and large group discussion. \nFACILITATOR PROFILE: Mick Cooper \nMick is an internationally recognised author\, trainer\, and consultant in the field of humanistic\, existential\, and pluralistic therapies. He is a Chartered Psychologist\, and Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton. Mick has facilitated workshops and lectures around the world\, including New Zealand\, Lithuania\, and Florida. Mick’s books include Existential Therapies (Sage\, 2017)\, Working at Relational Depth in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Sage\, 2018)\, and The Handbook of Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Counselling (Palgrave\, 2013). His latest work is Integrating Counselling and Psychotherapy: Directionality\, Synergy\, and Social Change (Sage\, 2019). Mick’s principal areas of research have been in shared decision-making/personalising therapy\, and counselling for young people in schools. In 2014\, Mick received the Carmi Harari Mid-Career Award from Division 32 of the American Psychological Association. He is a Fellow of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Academy of Social Sciences. \nBOOKING: CaPPP member £50.00\,  Non-member £60.00 plus booking fee \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/goals-in-therapy-actualising-our-deepest-directions-with-mick-cooper-tickets-118439554897 \nPlaces are limited and must be booked in advance by 18.00 on Wednesday 14th October. SUMMARY:Working with Clients with ASD / ASC / Aspergers with Jane Renton - CANCELLED due to COVID19
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP – CPD Workshop details:\nThis workshop is an introduction to working with ASD / ASC / Aspergers clients. \nThrough a mixture of presenting and group discussion we will explore the concerns around working with this client group\, dispel some myths and look at effective ways of tweaking traditional therapy to make it more suitable for this client group. We will explore the many and interconnecting issues a person on the spectrum may be dealing with. We will look at the childhood development of people on the spectrum as this is crucial in understanding their experience as an adult. Therefore\, the day should be useful whether you are working with children\, adults\, partners or parents. There will be time to raise questions\, share experiences and best practice. \nJane Renton is a BACP Accredited Counsellor. She has worked with people diagnosed with ASC for the past 15 years in various settings\, including primary and secondary schools\, and as a specialist mentor at the University of Bath. In her private practice she has seen many undiagnosed and diagnosed clients and relish the challenges that come with this presentation. “It’s a source of endless fascination to work creatively with existing modalities to create something that works for each individual.” \nRegistration and refreshments are available from 9.30 to 9.50 for a prompt start at 10.00am  \nLunch and refreshments are included in the price.  \nVenue: Penny Brohn Centre\, Chapel Pill Lane\, Pill\, Bristol BS20 0HH

SUMMARY:Working with Anxiety: A compassion-focused approach with Briony Martin
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP – CPD Workshop details:\n\nThis workshop aims to build confidence and resilience in working with anxiety as a presenting issue. \nIn this seminar we will be re-setting our approach to anxiety\, moving away from trying to cure or fix it and towards coming alongside and listening to it. We will explore our work with anxiety to date\, consider different manifestations of anxiety (including OCD and panic attacks)\, review recent research on the efficacy of compassionate resonance and introduce a compassionate-focused approach which seeks to befriend the anxious voice rather than disputing or replacing it. \nThe workshop will include reflection and discussion as well as input from the facilitator\, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions\, share knowledge and experience peer support. We will also learn some strategies for compassionate self-talk which can be used to attend to our own anxiety as well as offer to clients. \n  \nBriony Martin MA (Cantab) MBACP Arccred.\, Dip. Sup.\, is an experienced accredited therapist\, supervisor and counsellor educator. Her private practice is in Marlborough and Swindon in Wiltshire. She has worked as counselling diploma trainer and now provides bespoke counselling training across Berkshire and the South West. She trained integratively at Manchester University and has wide experience working with anxiety and associated issues. \n \nRegistration and refreshments are available from 9.30 to 9.50 for a prompt start at 10.00am  \nLunch and refreshments are included in the price.
