SUMMARY:Working with Clients with ASD / ASC / Aspergers with Jane Renton - CANCELLED due to COVID19
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP – CPD Workshop details:\nThis workshop is an introduction to working with ASD / ASC / Aspergers clients. \nThrough a mixture of presenting and group discussion we will explore the concerns around working with this client group\, dispel some myths and look at effective ways of tweaking traditional therapy to make it more suitable for this client group. We will explore the many and interconnecting issues a person on the spectrum may be dealing with. We will look at the childhood development of people on the spectrum as this is crucial in understanding their experience as an adult. Therefore\, the day should be useful whether you are working with children\, adults\, partners or parents. There will be time to raise questions\, share experiences and best practice. \nJane Renton is a BACP Accredited Counsellor. She has worked with people diagnosed with ASC for the past 15 years in various settings\, including primary and secondary schools\, and as a specialist mentor at the University of Bath. In her private practice she has seen many undiagnosed and diagnosed clients and relish the challenges that come with this presentation. “It’s a source of endless fascination to work creatively with existing modalities to create something that works for each individual.” \nRegistration and refreshments are available from 9.30 to 9.50 for a prompt start at 10.00am  \nLunch and refreshments are included in the price.  \nVenue: Penny Brohn Centre\, Chapel Pill Lane\, Pill\, Bristol BS20 0HH

SUMMARY:Working with Anxiety: A compassion-focused approach with Briony Martin
DESCRIPTION:CaPPP – CPD Workshop details:\n\nThis workshop aims to build confidence and resilience in working with anxiety as a presenting issue. \nIn this seminar we will be re-setting our approach to anxiety\, moving away from trying to cure or fix it and towards coming alongside and listening to it. We will explore our work with anxiety to date\, consider different manifestations of anxiety (including OCD and panic attacks)\, review recent research on the efficacy of compassionate resonance and introduce a compassionate-focused approach which seeks to befriend the anxious voice rather than disputing or replacing it. \nThe workshop will include reflection and discussion as well as input from the facilitator\, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions\, share knowledge and experience peer support. We will also learn some strategies for compassionate self-talk which can be used to attend to our own anxiety as well as offer to clients. \n  \nBriony Martin MA (Cantab) MBACP Arccred.\, Dip. Sup.\, is an experienced accredited therapist\, supervisor and counsellor educator. Her private practice is in Marlborough and Swindon in Wiltshire. She has worked as counselling diploma trainer and now provides bespoke counselling training across Berkshire and the South West. She trained integratively at Manchester University and has wide experience working with anxiety and associated issues. \n \nRegistration and refreshments are available from 9.30 to 9.50 for a prompt start at 10.00am  \nLunch and refreshments are included in the price. For this event there will be refreshment breaks of 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon with lunch from 13.00 to 14.00 \nVenue: Engineer’s House\, The Promenade\, Clifton Down\, Bristol BS8 3NB \nDirections: https://www.makeuk.org/venues/engineers-house-bristol
